Boyd & Lovell Join ATHENA Board

Helping women light their flame of empowerment and harness their inner strength to move others along the path of enlightenment leadership is the goal of ATHENA International, and two new members of the organization will help elevate that mission through their extensive backgrounds in transformational leadership.

Shelley Davis Boyd and Hope Lovell recently joined the ATHENA board, bringing with them a wealth of new insights and experiences that will continue to propel ATHENA International forward in its mission to create systematic solutions for women and bring a balance to the leadership voices around the world.

About Shelley Davis Boyd
Boyd is chief strategy officer at M3 Group, a full-service marketing and branding agency based in Lansing, Mich. She joined the agency after several years as director of communications, public relations and marketing for the Michigan Association of School Boards.

At the MASB, she led a team of five individuals in the execution of strategic messaging that captivated the nonprofit association membership of 5,000 educational leaders as well as coordinated professional development training for the association’s staff of 30.

In addition, Boyd has previously been the corporate marketing strategist of LAFCU, development manager for K12 Inc., and president at Mieshel Consulting. She also held an adjunct faculty post at Baker College, where she taught the professional career strategies course with a focus on employability techniques, salary negotiations, networking tactics and professional presentation. Professional career strategies, a course the Boyd helped design, is now a required course for all Baker College students, which led to increased employment rates of graduates.

Boyd is a certified ATHENA facilitator. She also holds certifications with the American Society of Association Executives, the Protocol School of Washington, the Credit Union National Association and the Emotional Intelligence Training Co.

She has worked on a variety of community boards and councils, including the Lansing Economic Development Corp., the Junior League of Lansing, the McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation and the Michigan Diversity Education Center.

Boyd holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Northwood University DeVos Graduate School.

About Hope Lovell
For more than 15 years, Lovell has served as the executive director of the Livonia, Michigan-based LoveJoy Community Services, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals with special needs through residential care, support coordination and training around community integration. Under her leadership, LoveJoy attained national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and has contracted with more than 10 counties throughout Michigan.

Prior to founding LoveJoy, Lovell worked in investment banking and portfolio management for six years with various large financial institutions. Her focus was on working with real estate investment trusts, home builders and private developers.

As a social entrepreneur with a heart for helping others, Lovell established the Transformational Advisory Group (TAG) corporation as a resource to educate and empower entrepreneurs across industries in a profound way. TAG has redefined what is means to be an incubator business hub, providing not only structure and support but also fund development resources.

She has served in various leadership positions, currently as board chair for Ingham Community Health Centers, the board of the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan and past chair of ATHENA WIN. In 2021, she received her certification from the Organic Farmer Training Program through Michigan State University Extension.

Lovell received her master’s degree in public health from the University of Michigan. Prior to completing graduate studies, she earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Michigan State University.

Both Boyd and Lovell bring a welcomed cache of additional strengths to the already electric mix of assets found among the ATHENA board membership. For more information on the board of directors for ATHENA International, visit athenainternational.org.
