Program Overview

The High School and Higher Ed Leadership Program is designed to empower students with the skills and confidence they need to excel in their future endeavors. By emphasizing self-reflection, skill development, and leadership opportunities, the program aims to unleash the potential of the next generation of leaders.

High School Track: Students are encouraged to claim their voices and utilize it to effect positive change in their lives and communities. Through engaging discussions and experiential activities, participants develop crucial interpersonal skills such as effective communication, networking, and conflict resolution. They also learn how to take an active role in driving projects, programs, or community initiatives aligned with their interests and passions.

Higher Ed Track: The leadership program serves as a catalyst for self-discovery and the cultivation of authentic leadership styles. Through dynamic discussions and experiential activities, students lean into their natural strengths and how to adjust within team dynamics. The curriculum emphasizes essential interpersonal skills like communication, interviewing, presentation, networking, and negotiation, preparing participants to thrive in future pursuits.

By empowering young leaders to assert their voices and make meaningful contributions, the program instills a sense of agency and responsibility. Ultimately, it equips students with the tools they need to make a positive impact on their surroundings and succeed in their academic, professional, and personal journeys.

Key Benefits to High Schools, Universities and Other Learning Institutions

Enhanced Student Engagement, Retention, and Matriculation: According to the National Student Clearinghouse, around one-third of all U.S. college students transfer at least once before earning their degree. ATHENA’s Leadership programs provide students with opportunities to develop valuable skills, such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making. Engaging in leadership activities can make learning more relevant and meaningful, as well as assist them with future job placement.

Improved Academic Performance: Students who participate in empathetic leadership programs like Becoming ATHENA often demonstrate improved academic performance. The crucial skills they learn help students become more focused, organized, and motivated to succeed academically.

Foster a Positive School Culture: By fostering collaboration, empathy, and respect among students, Becoming ATHENA promotes a positive school culture. When students have opportunities to lead and support their peers, it creates a sense of belonging and community within the school, reducing incidents of bullying, isolation, and disciplinary issues.

Preparation for College and Career Success: Becoming ATHENA helps prepare students for success through teaching leadership skills and competencies. Students gain the confidence and resilience needed to navigate academic challenges, pursue higher education opportunities, and thrive in a competitive job market.

Enhanced School Reputation and Branding: Schools offering a robust leadership program like Becoming ATHENA differentiates them from their competitors and enhances their reputation as an institution committed to holistic student development. This can drive enrollment and attract high performing students and top educators.

Community Engagement and Partnerships: Leadership programs often involve collaboration with community organizations, businesses, and mentors. By forging partnerships with external stakeholders, schools can provide students with valuable networking opportunities, internships, and real-world experiences that enhance their skills and expand their horizons.

Alumni Engagement and Support: Prioritizing leadership education strengthens alumni networks and support systems. Alumni who have benefited from leadership programs are more likely to stay connected with their alma mater, volunteer their time and resources, and contribute to fundraising efforts that support current students and future initiatives.

Prevention of Negative Behaviors: Leadership programs serve as a proactive measure to prevent negative behaviors, such as substance abuse, violence, and dropout rates. By empowering students to become positive role models and agents of change within their school communities, Becoming ATHENA contributes to a safer, healthier, and more inclusive learning environment.
