Supporting, Honoring and Developing Women Leaders
ATHENA
International College
Leadership Initiative
~Frequently Asked Questions~
Q. How does this program help
colleges and universities connect students with community leaders?
A. The design formats allow former ATHENA recipients to be a part of
providing leadership development for the students through their lived
experiences. If you do not have a formal
ATHENA awards program in your area from which to draw, it is an opportunity to
identify women professionals in your community that reflect ATHENA principles
in their leadership. Q. Is there a particular time of year when this must be
offered?
A. The ATHENA International College Leadership
Initiative allows for great flexibility in terms of implementation. Because the curriculum can be used in a
variety of formats, you may want to use it during orientation at the start of
the year, during the semester for upper class students as a leadership certificate
program, or at the end of the year as a model for recognizing outstanding
leadership on campus.
Q. What is included in the ATHENA
International College
Leadership Initiative?
A. The program includes:
- Program
Materials: ATHENA Leadership Model® curriculum, graphic files (including all
templates and samples you need for successful programming)
- Three
separate design formats: ATHENA
Connections, the ATHENA Leadership Summit, and the ATHENA Book Club
- Access
to online resources on the ATHENA International website
- Ongoing
leadership news and correspondence from ATHENA International
- Up
to 100 sets of ATHENA Leadership Model®
principles cards
- A
three hour implementation training
Q. What is the cost of
participating in the ATHENA
International College
Leadership Initiative?
A. There is a one-time license
fee of $600 for the use of the ATHENA Leadership Model® and all of the support
materials. If the college initiative
facilitators (there are 2 of them) travel more than 30 miles to campus, the
fees for travel must be covered by the host institution (all efforts will be
made to see that this involves no overnight accommodation).
In subsequent years, there is an annual $200 fee for the
ongoing use of the materials – in whatever format you deem useful. In addition, ATHENA requires an annual report
on your College Leadership Initiative events so your efforts can be tracked and
recognized for innovation!
Q. What is included in the annual $200 commitment (after the
initial license fee)?
A. This fee allows you to use
the ATHENA Leadership Model® in whatever formats you choose while reporting
those initiatives each year through a simple annual report.
Q. How do we get started?
A. Simply contact ATHENA International at
312-580--0111 or ddinkel@athenainternational.org or to Marlene Kowalski-Braun,

State University
at 616-331-2748 or kowalsm@gvsu.edu to request a license. A comprehensive program toolkit will be
