CONDOLEEZZA RICE RECEIVED A GLOBAL ATHENA LEADERSHIP AWARD AT THE UNIVERSITY OF THE PACIFIC

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (pictured on the left with Martha Mertz, Founder of ATHENA International) received the Global ATHENA
Leadership Award at the University of the Pacific's forum on Advancing
Women's Leadership, "No Ordinary Woman." Dr. Rice delivered the
keynote address at a forum on March 21, 2013. The forum on
Advancing Women's Leadership brings together diverse and esteemed
thought leaders from the local and national stages to inspire
participants, especially young women, to make a lasting, positive and powerful impact in the communities where they live and work.

Program: Women's Council of Washtenaw County - a business mentoring program that selects a woman-owned
business, assesses its needs, assembles an Advisory Panel of experts,
and works with the woman for one year to help her transform her
business for future growth and increased profits.
"This
program is an important contributor to economic development in
Washtenaw County", said Jan Davies McDermott, who administrates the
program. "The women who have participated in the program in the past
have made significant strides in the growth of their businesses, but
more importantly, the program has shown them the importance of looking
at their businesses through the eyes of others, opening themselves up to
the suggestions of experts, and making sensible infrastruture
