Nomination Instructions and Form

The ATHENA Award and the ATHENA Young Professional Leadership awards are international leadership awards that actively support and celebrate the ATHENA mission of supporting, developing and honoring women leaders, inspiring women to achieve their full potential—creating balance in leadership worldwide. It is the focus on mentorship that sets the ATHENA Award apart from other leadership awards of its kind.

The Award Criteria

ATHENA Award and ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award (AYPLA) Nominees must meet each of the following three criteria:

  • Demonstrate excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession
  • Provide valuable service to improve the quality of life for others in their community
  • Actively assist women in achieving their full leadership potential

Nominee Qualifications

  • ATHENA Award and AYPLA Nominees may represent either the profit or not-for-profit sector, and must work in the Charlotte area.
  • Previous ATHENA Award and AYPLA Recipients are not eligible for nomination, however past nominees may be nominated again.
  • There is no minimum or maximum age qualification that must be met by ATHENA Award and AYPLA Nominees.
  • AYPLA Award Nominees have a minimum of seven years professional experience

Completing the Nomination Form 

  • You are encouraged to work closely with your nominee to complete their nomination.
  • Nominations for the ATHENA Award and AYPLA must be submitted using this nomination form and format.
  • You may include no more than three additional pages of supporting documents (articles, testimonials, etc) with your completed nomination form.
  • Deadline for submission is August 1, 2012.

Selection Process

A Selection Committee, made up of a diverse group of community leaders, will review all nominations and select the ATHENA Leadership Award and the AYPLA Recipients.  The recipients will be announced at the inaugural Charlotte ATHENA Leadership Awards Reception sponsored by KPMG LLP.
