The voice of women leaders is clearly being amplified: The number of women-owned businesses has surged to 40% overall. Women make 80% of the consumer goods purchasing decisions. An all-time high number of women were elected to the House of Representatives. The Decade of Women, “Women Rising” programs and the all-female panel at the World Economic Forum are just a few examples of this global, relevant, high stakes, urgent, needed transition.
However, there are still gaps to fill. Even though studies show that companies that employ more senior women outperform their competitors in every major profitability metric, there are only 24 female CEOs on the Fortune 500 list. This is only 5% of the total, with only two being women of color. We also need more women in STEM to help lead the 4th Industrial Revolution, fusing the physical, digital and biological worlds, which will impact all disciplines, economies and industries.
Our strategic plan 2018-2020 will advocate our 8 ATHENA principles of enlightened leadership through:
DEVELOPING WOMEN LEADERS
ATHENA Leadership Forum: where established leaders coach and mentor emerging women leaders
Becoming ATHENA Leadership Programs: A collaborative mentoring forum where participants in middle school, high school, college and beyond enhance professional development skills though the ATHENA Leadership Model
ATHENA Affiliate Membership Program: a local community committed to providing continued leadership learning.
SUPPORTING WOMEN LEADERS
ATHENAPowerlinkⓇ: a business advisory board designed to increase growth and profitability of women-owned businesses
ATHENA in Tech: an 8-member council of women representing tech companies committed to building a pipeline of women leaders in tech
ATHENA Leadership Academy: a membership-based access to connection and learning
HONORING WOMEN LEADERS
ATHENA Leadership Awards (local, national and global): The ATHENA Leadership Award is presented to a woman ---or man--- who is honored for professional excellence, community service and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills
To this end, we have launched a year-end "Give Back” campaign where our founder, Martha Mertz, will match all 2018 donor contributions up to $25,000. Our goal is $100,000. All donations will help us grow our impact from the classroom to the board room, and any amount over $2500 will be recognized as a golden ATHENA sponsor.
The importance of women leaders has never been greater. By #GivingBack you are living the example of one of the most important ATHENA principles, and inspiring the next generation!
