Photographic Project founder Elise Sanford named recipient of Athena Award

The late Elise Sanford, founder of the Athens Photographic Project, is being recognized as the recipient of the 2018 Athena Award. The annual award honors a community member or organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for those with disabilities, while making a significant contribution to the city of Athens.

The award was accepted on behalf of Sanford — who died earlier in 2018 — by Nate Thomson, director of the Athens Photographic Project. The ceremony was held in mid-December at Southeast Ohio History Center, where guests also had the opportunity to view the photographs of this year’s artists that were on display. Read more>
